Session 6: Fortini/Cani (Fortini/Dogs) + Toute révolution est un coup de dés (Every Revolution Is a Throw of the Dice)

Presentation: Santos Zunzunegui

Toute révolution est un coup de dés, straub-huillet

Focus: Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. Session 6 (93’). *Notice: The following film may have some particularities in the subtitles. Some phrases or fragments would have no subtitles at all. This is not a mistake. It follows the way that Straub and Huillet wanted their films to be subtitled.

Fortini/Cani (Fortini/Perros)

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, Italy, , 1976 83', OV with Spanish subtitles, DCP

The impulse for this film comes from the reading of the communist and anti-Zionist pamphlet "Il cani del sinai", written by Florentine poet Franco Fortini shortly after the Six Day War. The filmmakers were not so interested in the anti-imperialist argument as much as in the criticism of Italy's past dealt with in the text with such great ferocity.

Toute révolution est un coup de dés (Toda revolución es una tirada de dados)

Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, France, , 1977 10', OV with Spanish subtitles, DCP

Reading of Stéphane Mallarmé’s poem A Throw of the Dice will Never Abolish Chance in the Père-Lachaise cemetery, Paris.
