Starting today, Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba give Tabakalera’s first artists’ workshop
The artists’ training programme will be delivered in the Artist's Space from July 10th to 30th.
Until mid-August, the twelve artists selected to take part in the workshop will have access to a studio for developing their own projects.
From today, July 30th, Tabakalera launches a training programme for artists which will support those taking part to develop and reflect upon their own work. Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba will jointly deliver the workshop.
The programme is aimed at anyone with a firm wish to create something, and will strengthen aspects of their creation process. The artists don't need experience in any specific discipline to take part in the training, regardless of what stage they are at professionally and artistically.
Twelve artists have been selected from the thirty applications received during the workshop registration period.
Transit as a central theme
The central theme of the workshop is the concept of transit, a gap in space and time that invites the traveller to pass through it from a point of entry to its exit. The workshop thus asks the participants to pause and step out of their normal work rhythms, and to contemplate their artistic work from a distance with a self-critical perspective.
Okariz and Euba will deliver this training programme collaboratively whilst staying true to their own approaches, thus giving the participants diverse viewpoints and practices to work with.
Personal projects in the Artist’s Space studios
From today until August 15th, the twelve artists selected to take part in this workshop will also have access to the studios in the Artist’s Space. These will be free of residents over the coming weeks — the batch of creators from the first semester will have left, and the second group doesn't arrive until September onwards.
Interviews can be arranged with Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba whilst the artists' training programme is under way. To express interest in an interview please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
